Of course, no student is guaranteed a continuing place at Mountainview--even after the probationary period--if school policies are not respected. Note that capital levy fees are non-refundable if a student is unable to reenroll.
ESL PoliciesMountainview International School has been established for the purpose of providing a high quality Christian education to English-speaking students whose parents live in Indonesia. The primary recipients (as established by board policy) are North American English speakers whose parents are in Indonesia for non-profit Christian service purposes. In order to maintain this purpose and to maintain a high quality education, the school board has establish limits to how many ESL/non-native English speaking students may be accepted in each grade level (50%) and how many may be accepted school-wide (40%). As ESL/non-native English speaking students apply for admission to Mountainview, these limitations and standards must be understood. The Mountainview administration and admissions review committee will make a decision on how many students can be accepted per grade, school-wide, and per year based on various criteria. A. Acceptance: See the Application Process for details of application, review and acceptance procedures. B. Probationary Period: Newly admitted students are on probationary status for one year. Their reenrollment at Mountainview for a second school year will depend on their academic success and their adjustment to school culture and policies. ESL students, especially, must demonstrate the ability to succeed in an all-English environment. This determination will be made during or at the end of their first year, depending on testing, grades and consultation with teachers. Failure to meet standards may necessitate a student's being placed in a lower grade, repeating the current grade, or even withdrawing from Mountainview. Of course, no student is guaranteed a continuing place at Mountainview--even after the probationary period--if school policies are not respected. Note that capital levy fees are non-refundable if a student is unable to reenroll. C. Proficiency Testing: ESL students must progress in their English fluency in order to be promoted. ESL students will be tested at the end of grades 3, 6 and 8 in order to be promoted to grades 4, 7 and 9. Current students are not charged for ESL testing. Summer tutoring and re-testing may be required for promotion. In cases where the student has shown a clear lack of progress, usually accompanied by a lack of effort, the student may be asked to withdraw from Mountainview. D. Re-testing: ESL students who do not attend Mountainview for a year or more may be required to take another ESL test for readmission.
